As part of the Development Marketing and Communications team within the Graduate School of Business Development department, this position reports to the Director of Development Marketing and Communications. The team is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compelling recognition, stewardship, and communications for donors; and the coordination of related operational processes with the university Office of Development, GSB Finance, and other departments within the school.

The Assistant Director, Development Marketing and Communications will manage stewardship programs designed to communicate with the university's donors; create and implement customized and comprehensive stewardship plans; and manage data and processes for producing donor communications deliverables.  

Your primary responsibilities include:

  • Participate in defining the stewardship strategy in adherence to the university's stewardship standards.
  • Develop and implement programs that provide comprehensive reporting to donors. Manage workflow for a variety of projects that motivate prospective donors to support the GSB, and steward existing donors by reporting on the impact of their gifts, providing donor recognition, and ensuring appropriate use of their funds.
  • Responsible for the allocation of resources for stewardship reporting and stewardship requests. Proactively monitor and manage the stewardship needs of donors. Build a complete understanding of each donor's involvement and giving activity.
  • Coordinate with staff and development officers to develop and produce key stewardship deliverables, including written (hard copy, email or online content), video, or events.
  • Strategically conceptualize and ensure effective use of sophisticated informational systems (e.g., proprietary donor database, financial reporting systems, Excel) as powerful tools for data analysis and management of donor stewardship and communications deliverables.
  • Manage systems to analyze financial data and fund information in coordination with the university Office of Development and GSB Finance departments, university development operations, and legal departments to ensure accurate and timely use of funds and financial reporting to donors.
  • Maintain open channels of communications with stewardship colleagues across the university.
  • May set priorities for stewardship team(s) and manage their overall effectiveness. Develop tracking methods for reporting of the team's overall productivity.
  • May be involved in hiring, training, setting individual performance goals and completing annual performance reviews.
  • Be flexible to completing any other additional assigned duties.

Ba Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Strong client service orientation and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and professionalism to interact with a wide range of people at different levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to edit high-level correspondence.
  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities, with competing deadlines, in close partnership with internal clients, designers, and vendors for complex deadline-driven projects.
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, and customer-service orientation to integrate disparate pieces of information, often prompted by time-sensitive inquiries from fundraisers and donors.
  • Must be able to conduct research and ability to interpret information available in a database.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Tact, discretion, and experience handling confidential information.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and database applications.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment in situations requiring independent decision-making and in handling confidential and sensitive material.
  • Familiarity with PostGrads, InDesign, Oracle Financials, and Drupal preferred.
