About Us
The Stanford School of Earth, Energy & Environmental Sciences (SE3) develops the knowledge and talent to understand the workings of the planet and to help solve resource and environmental challenges. The Stanford Center for Carbon Storage SCCS) is a collaboration of more than 10 research groups at Stanford University drawn from engineering, science, policy, geopolitical, and business disciplines that works with a consortium of industry partners and other external stakeholders to generate the knowledge needed to store carbon to its greatest social, economic, and environmental benefit.

SCCS is seeking a Managing Director, who will work with the SCCS co-Directors and Stanford faculty and research community to identify and develop industry opportunities to support the five key areas of the center.
 

Your Responsibilities will include:

  • Assist the Directors with management of research and programmatic activities.
  • Manage corporate affiliate engagement.
  • Coordinate faculty and research staff across campus to help pursue and highlight research in a wide range of disciplines.
  • Develop, with key faculty and the Directors, funding priorities
  • Organize annual symposium and topical workshops.
  • Assist the Director in leading the annual meeting of the SCCS Advisory Board
  • Interact with the Managing Directors of other energy initiatives at Stanford that are part of the Precourt Institute for Energy
  • Oversee all communications, development and outreach internally and externally to other academic institutions, businesses and organizations.

To be successful in this position, you will need:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to influence and motivate constituencies which could span multiple organizational boundaries.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning, organizational and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions using good business judgment and innovative and creative problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, organizational and staff resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships.
  • Relevant subject matter expertise.
  • Strong project planning and management skills.
  • Experience in or knowledge of business process improvement methodology.
  • Ability to act independently and as part of a team.
  • Bachelor’s degree and ten years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

In addition, our preferred requirements include:

  • Advance degree (PhD, MS or equivalent) in energy-related discipline.
  • Knowledge of carbon storage – spanning separation, processing, distribution, injection and lifecycle environmental impacts.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of both the academic, corporate and non-profit settings.
