Queen’s Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences houses five academic schools, including the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work.  This School brings together a wide range of scholarly, professional and applied subjects including education, social policy, social work and sociology, and has 1,625 students and 80 academic staff.

The School is looking to appoint a Professor in Sociology to make a substantial contribution to the research and teaching activities of the School, to provide academic and research leadership in Sociology, and to enhance the School’s international links and research capabilities.  The successful candidate will provide leadership and support to a strong group of academics and establish a vision for Sociology at Queen’s as a key part of the School’s development.

Strong candidates will bring a sustained record of research publications of international excellence in high quality and internationally recognised journals alongside a proven track record of attracting and supervising research students.  S/he will also evidence success in securing grant income, and have a proven ability to deliver high quality teaching that complements and enhances the School’s teaching activities in Sociology.  The appointed candidate will complement this experience with leadership capability and bring a supportive, innovative and strategic approach to the School.
