The School of Engineering and Applied Science is consistently ranked highly in the UK for engineering-related disciplines. Our research is diverse, multidisciplinary in nature and designed to promote solutions to practical problems. The Aston Institute for Urban Technologies and Environment will draw on expertise across the School in order to address current and future urban environment challenges including areas such as: Smart Energy Grids; Assisted Living; Smart Health; Smart Mobility and Transport Systems; Intelligent Buildings; Urban Planning; Smart Governance.

As founding Director of ASTUTE you will be supported by the School’s Senior Management Team to develop an exciting plan for establishing the Institute and developing links with the region and beyond. Our aim is for ASTUTE to be interdisciplinary both within the School and across Aston University, therefore you will be able to demonstrate leadership, management, communication skills and impact in cross-disciplinary projects; and how current and future urban environment challenges can draw on expertise including (but not limited to): System Analytics, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Mathematical Analysis, Logistics and Engineering Management, Communications and Sensors, Photonics, and Renewable Energy.

We particularly welcome applicants with an established track record aligned with urban technologies from academic, government and industry backgrounds.
