About the position

A PhD position is available in the lab of Professor Therese Standal, a group leader at CEMIR - a Norwegian Centre of Excellence in Molecular Inflammation Research. The research group focuses on how inflammation and inflammatory signals affect multiple myeloma disease progression and bone health.

The student will work on a project studying how changes in the myeloma bone marrow microenvironment may influence protein glycosylation and the potential impact of such changes on bone homeostasis and infection risk.

This position is a fixed term, full time (100 %) position for 3 years starting in summer/autumn 2019. Master students graduating summer 2019 can apply.

Job description

  • The work will be a combination of cell biological and biochemical work to decipher molecular mechanisms of bone loss and infection risk in multiple myeloma
  • In vivo experiments utilizing different mouse models of multiple myeloma

Qualifications

The PhD-position's main objective is to qualify for work in research positions. The qualification requirement is completion of a master’s degree or second degree (equivalent to 120 credits) with a strong academic background or equivalent education with a grade of B or better in terms of NTNU’s grading scale. Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be considered only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree.

Qualification requirements:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent education within cell biology, immunology, biochemistry, medicine or a related field
  • Excellent English skills, spoken and written

Emphasis will also be placed on experience with the following techniques/areas:

  • Mammalian cell culture
  • Gene editing
  • Advanced imaging
  • In vivo experiments
  • Prior written, scientific output
  • Excellent communication abilities

The appointment is to be made in accordance with the regulations in force concerning State Employees and Civil Servants and national guidelines for appointment as PhD, postdoctor and research assistant.

We offer

Salary and conditions

PhD candidates are remunerated in code 1017, and depending on qualifications and academic background is remunerated at gross from NOK 449 400 - NOK 515 200 before tax per year. From the salary, 2 % is deducted as a contribution to the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The period of employment is 3 years. Appointment to a PhD position requires admission to the PhD program. A condition of appointment is that you are in fact qualified for admission to the PhD programme within three months.

Appointment takes place on the terms that apply to State employees at any time, and after the appointment you must assume that there may be changes in the area of work.
