The Role & Your Responsibilities

The Postdoctoral Research Assistant is funded by an ARC Discovery Grant (DP180100762) entitled "A novel approach to electrical arc machining of polycrystalline diamond with a rotating wheel electrode". The aim of the project is to develop a new approach for electrical discharge machining of polycrystalline diamond (PCD). The focus is to discover new machining theories and investigate the erosion mechanism of electrical arcs and irregular discharge pulses in the machining process.

The Research Assistant will specifically assist the chief investigators by undertaking research as specified in the ARC proposal. You will be expected to participate in planning and executing research and generating papers, reports and writing research grants.

Skills & Experience Required

As the successful candidate, you will have a strong background in electrical discharge machining (EDM) or wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM). Your emerging track record of original research in relevant areas will be highly regarded. You will possess the ability to contribute to teaching and learning activities, as well as the co-supervision of undergraduate, postgraduate and HDR students. In addition, you will have demonstrated ability to work effectively both as a member of a research team and independently when required, to meet project outcomes and milestones.

Mandatory: PhD in Manufacturing/Mechanical/Materials Engineering, or related discipline
