Job Details

As the only national institution with an integrated defence focus, UNSW Canberra is developing specialist capability to establish itself as one of the top specialist institutions in the world. It aims to accomplish this goal by achieving a significant international research profile, thereby ensuring that the delivery of education services to the Australian Defence Force is of the highest standard. UNSW Canberra staff undertake both Defence and non-Defence related academic research.

UNSW Canberra Cyber is a Centre which provides the intersection of professional training, education and research in cyber security. The Centre is hosted by the School of Engineering and Information Technology but reaches out to embrace and collaborate with all of the schools and faculties in UNSW. Recognising that the field of Cyber Security is largely driven by the agenda of the subdisciplines of Social Science, Management, Policy and Computer Science, UNSW Canberra Cyber aspires to be the focal point for the researchers within faculties across UNSW who conduct research on different aspects of cyber security. Its world class facilities can support researchers and students alike in pursuit of thought-leadership in cyber security through research, education and external engagement.

The Director Research (Cyber) will have an appreciation for and experience within an interdisciplinary community of cyber security professionals in order to foster a research culture which embodies divergent disciplinary perspectives. The Position may sit in any of the four UNSW Canberra schools, dependant on academic background, and will work with the Director, UNSW Canberra Cyber and other UNSW academics to set a research direction, coordinate large proposal opportunities and administer the academic missions of UNSW Canberra Cyber, especially with regard to research training.

The appointee will demonstrate an outstanding record of research in a relevant discipline (as evidenced through publications, grant capture, awards, and external engagement), along with a cross disciplinary orientation. They will have proven research leadership experience and the ability to drive research strategy and support others in developing their own program of research. A compelling communicator, they will be able to engage with a range of stakeholders across academia, Government, Defence, and professional and industry bodies.

The appointee will report to the Rector in their capacity as Director Research (Cyber) and to the relevant Head of School in regards to all standard academic pursuits.

Should you have additional questions please contact Sophia Ha in the Sydney office of Perrett Laver at Sophia.Ha@perrettlaver.com or on +61 2 8354 4026.

The closing date for applications (consisting of a full academic CV and a covering letter) is 12 noon AEDT, Monday 15th April.
