The Royal College of Music (RCM) is one of the world’s leading conservatoires, training gifted musicians from all over the world for international careers as performers, conductors and composers. With a record of innovation and collaboration, the RCM creates not just gifted musicians, but generations of musical visionaries. Founded in 1882 by the then Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), the RCM has trained some of the most important figures in British and international musical life. The 21st century RCM continues to be a vibrant community of exceptional musicians studying in an environment where exploration, collaboration and diversity are prized. The College has just been ranked as the top UK conservatoire for Performing Arts in the QS World University Rankings for the fourth year in succession.
We are seeking to appoint a Director of Programmes, a newly created strategic leadership role with responsibility for the academic and curriculum development portfolio; as well as our strategies on teaching and learning and the student experience. This is an exciting time for the College, in the middle of our More Music: Reimagining the Royal College of Music Campaign, which will provide new exciting spaces for our students and staff, as well as supporting innovative and digital learning opportunities. Our new Director of Programmes will continue to enhance and raise our profile both nationally and internationally, building on our reputation as a globally leading Conservatoire committed to providing the best opportunities and outcomes for learning, teaching quality and performance for our students.
We are seeking an individual with a strong personal profile in teaching and management in a comparable environment, who is able to demonstrate successful strategic leadership of specialist music education and training provision.
A commitment to the goals and values of a conservatoire education in music and the RCM’s mission is essential to the success of this role.
