We are seeking a clinician-scientist to lead and implement training, support and ongoing career path formation of clinician-scientists at graduate and post-graduate levels.

The Melbourne Medical School (MMS) continues to build its significant research and teaching capacity, develop the future medical workforce, and enhance strong relationships within the biomedical precinct.

Under the leadership of Professor John Prins, the MMS is undertaking exciting new developments including a major review of the Doctor of Medicine curriculum, an emphasis on the clinician-scientist career trajectory (in partnership with affiliated hospitals, medical research institutes and foundations), and a reinvigorated focus on clinically relevant research.

About the role

The incumbent will take responsibility for leading and implementing programs for the training, support and ongoing career path formation of clinician-scientists at graduate and post-graduate levels. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with MMS’s affiliated hospitals and medical research institutes, relevant professional bodies (including Royal Australasian Colleges) and potential funders to develop an integrated set of programs aimed to attract and support the highest quality students, graduates and trainees in progression to a careers as clinician-scientists, with the clear goal to develop and nurture future leaders in all aspects of health care, education, research and policy. 

About you

You will be an active clinician-scientist with an existing (paid or honorary) affiliation with the MMS.   The role also presents a career development opportunity for the appointee, with exposure to senior levels of management in the MMS, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, and key partners. The incumbent will, circumstances allowing and subject to opportunity, be expected to continue with academic and clinical activity whilst undertaking this role.
