Description:

The Digital Manager will serve as the central technical point of contact for the coordination and dissemination of all Office of Alumni Relations and Johns Hopkins Alumni Association communications. Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Alumni Services, the Digital Manager will be responsible for the development, administration and content management of the Johns Hopkins Alumni Association’s technology-driven marketing initiatives, including the Alumni Association website (alumni.jhu.edu); the Alumni Association’s and Alumni Council President’s social media communities (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); various online communications  through e-Newsletters (including JHUpdate and the Alumni Council President’s Newsletter) and email marketing campaigns; the Alumni Association’s social media ambassadorship program, Hopkins Promoters, and the Alumni Association’s online networking, mentoring and directory platform, GoHopOnline.com; which are designed to increase alumni awareness, engagement and financial support of the Alumni Association’s programs and services. The Digital Manager will also be responsible for researching and implementing new technologies to further promote the Alumni Association’s marketing goals.

In addition, the Digital Manager will coordinate with various stakeholders, including Johns Hopkins staff and volunteers, to write and distribute communications and marketing materials (social media posts, email content, print and online advertising copy, website landing pages, etc) to targeted alumni audiences promoting alumni engagement opportunities and fundraising opportunities (i.e. designated crowdfunding campaigns), including Reunion/Homecoming, Alumni Journeys, Regional Communities and Affinity Engagement programs.

The Digital Manager will also work collaboratively with IT staff in Development Business Services for all aspects of Web Hosting, CMS Implementation (Drupal), database management systems upkeep (Lyris List Manager Software) and alumni email migration issues resulting from JHED deactivations.

This position also oversees part-time student workers (2-3)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities of This Position: 

Electronic Media/Social Media Maintenance and Content Management (80%)

Website:

Responsible for all aspects of the Alumni Association website, including content development using web authoring tools and CMS Drupal. Designs and builds new web pages, and redesigns layout and overall flow of website, as needed. Creates and implements interactive web features and graphics, including video and audio, to enhance overall user experience. Manages the collection, review and editing of all website content, and writes new content as needed. Serves as the central point of contact for website content management. Meets with internal stakeholders, including Hopkins IT, to gather system requirements and participates in the development and implementation of web-based systems that directly affect the Alumni Association website. Collaborates with the Office of Communications to ensure that website design and content is consistent with the University’s branding guidelines. Also responsible for maintaining the online alumni networking platform, GoHopOnline.com, including user approval, site content updates, user support (log-in issues).  Also acts as a liaison with the Graduway, the design company of GoHopOnline.com. 

Social Media:

Acts as the creative lead for the management and execution of the Alumni Association’s And Alumni Council President’s social media channels – Twitter, Facebook,  Linkedin, Instagram, etc. Coordinates with Office of Alumni Relations staff to ensure the various social media communications support the Office’s broader strategic plan of engaging more alumni. Maintains an updated copy of evergreen messaging for a continuous social media presence. Reviews all social media communications released by various Johns Hopkins departments and divisions for alumni relevancy and reposts as necessary. Researches new social media platforms and features, determines relevancy to Johns Hopkins Alumni Association’s programs and services, and implements accordingly. Collaborates with the company Social Toaster to ensure the effective marketing and implementation of our social media ambassadorship program, Hopkins Promoters.

Multimedia communications:

Creates email marketing campaigns using Lyris List Manager software, including the design and creation of new HTML email templates for multiple message points. Copywrite as needed. Coordinates online surveys as necessary using various tools (SurveyMonkey). Maintains targeted lists and segments within Lyris List Manager. Coordinates the production of various e-newsletters, including the Alumni Council President’s Newsletter and JHUpdate. Uses HTML programming to create webpages for newsletters for review and testing prior to release. Manages and updates lists in Lyris.  Edits audio/video from alumni events and posts to social media. Manages photo galleries (i.e. Flickr, JHBox, etc) for various alumni programs, including Alumni Communities, Reunion & Homecoming and Travel Journeys. 

Design:

Uses graphics tools such as  Adobe Creative Cloud Software (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) to create design layouts for print and online projects, including invitations, flyers, postcards, resource materials, landing pages, and other special projects as needed. 

Management:

This position oversees 2-3 part time student workers that assist in duties above.

Marketing Analytics (10%) 

Provides monthly traffic analysis reports through various analytical software, including Google Analytics, Sprout Social, Hootsuite, and Lyris. Makes recommendations and implements changes based on visitor trends. 

Other assignments as needed (10%)

Assists alumni through email and phone requests with various user-related technical issues (Alumni Services Authentication System, HKET Online Alumni Library, email alias and JHED deactivation issues, GoHopOnline.com login issues, etc). Investigates and resolves issues directly with Development Business Services, Hopkins IT, and Graduway partners. 

Posted Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, with preference in fine arts, graphic design, computer science, creative writing or journalism. Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in web and social media site administration/maintenance and database management. Basic Photoshop and HTML experience are preferred.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
