Over the next decade, the Doctoral College and Centre for Research Capability Development will have a pivotal role to play in advancing the University's research environment. The College and Centre forms a core part of the University's research infrastructure (research centres and research office), which was established in 2015 to support the University's ambitious research strategy and the objectives set out in the Corporate Plan through leadership, line management, use of influence, the motivation of others and personal actions. The College and Centre also engage in national and international policy development in the area of research capability and development and work closely with the British Council, Vitae, Association for Research Managers and Administrators, National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement, and UK Council for Graduate Education.
The key areas of focus for the next five years will be: major innovations in research support structures, design and delivery of development opportunities from PhD to Professor; high quality enhancement of research supervision, sector-leading researcher capability development provisions to support REF2020; and development of an expanded portfolio of collaborative national and international doctoral programmes and research capability projects.
The College and Centre has three teams covering the following functions:
1. Research Student Lifecycle
2. Sponsor Relations, Business Development and International
3. Research Capability and Development
This role will sit in the Centre for Research Capability and Development. The post provides an opportunity for an enthusiastic early career academic to gain a wide range of experience in research capability and development. Under the supervision and guidance of a senior academic member of staff, the post holder will contribute to the delivery of researcher development initiatives and to provide support for researchers, from PhD to Professor. The role will also support the design and delivery of research, scholarship and professional practice projects.
