DCU – Talent, Discovery and Transformation

Dublin City University is a vibrant, forward-thinking institution renowned for the quality and impact of its graduates and for its emphasis on translating knowledge into societal and economic benefit.

Our mission is to transform lives and societies through education, research, innovation and engagement.

DCU is consistently ranked in the top 1.5% of universities globally and is regarded as one of the world’s leading young universities because of its regular inclusion in the global rankings of young universities (QS Top 50 under 50; THE 100 under 50). 22% of the student population are international students representing over 110 different nationalities.

Commitment to Research Excellence

The DCU campus is home to a variety of internationally-renowned research centres in areas across Science, Engineering, ICT, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education and Business. Celebrated for its culture of innovation and entrepreneurship, and its active engagement with the enterprise sector, DCU is home to the first Fraunhofer Project Centre to be established in Ireland.

DCU is consistently a leader among Irish universities in terms of Intellectual Property licences. DCU’s Commercialisation and Industry Interface unit, DCU Invent, DCU Ryan Academy for Entrepreneurs and DCU Alpha (the University’s successful Innovation Campus) are vehicles by which the university contributes to our national innovation environment.

‘One DCU’

Ireland’s fastest growing university, DCU has experienced more than 50% growth in student numbers in the past five years. Today more than 17,000 students attend the university across its three campuses (DCU Glasnevin Campus; DCU St. Patrick’s Campus; DCU All Hallows Campus) in the Glasnevin-Drumcondra area of Dublin, just a short distance from Dublin city centre.

In September 2016, DCU completed a process resulting in the incorporation of three Dublin institutions: Church of Ireland College of Education, Mater Dei Institute of Education and St Patrick's College. By incorporating leading colleges of education and uniting these with its School of Education Studies, DCU established Ireland’s first university Faculty of Education and a much larger and distinct Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Strategically, DCU is now focussed on creating a coherent, integrated, multi-campus University, ‘One DCU’, which seeks to enhance the lived experience of staff as we establish and develop a new staff community and shared culture. It is a hugely exciting time to join DCU, offering new colleagues a genuine opportunity to join us in shaping the future of Dublin City University.
