The University of Lincoln is seeking to appoint a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer within the Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology, an innovative and forward-thinking research unit. Applicants should hold a PhD or relevant experience and should be able to demonstrate an excellent track record in sustainable agriculture, regenerative agriculture, biodiversity and agricultural environmental science.

The successful candidate will develop their own research portfolio within the context of sustainable agriculture to compliment existing work on sustainable systems and crop science research and the department’s expanding focus on carbon net zero relating to food production. Expectations include acquiring external funding, publishing in the highest quality journals and conferences. The role will be expected to contribute to teaching activities relating to MSc in Agri-Food Technology and professional short courses such as BASIS, Soil and Water Management and Conservation Management and/or related degree programmes within the University. Supervision of post-doctoral researchers and PhD students will also be required.

The Riseholme Campus is also home to Lincoln Agri-Robotics (LAR), the University’s research group focused on applying robotics solutions to agricultural challenges (awarded £6.4 million from Research England). Academics and students in this field apply their excellent track record in robotics, autonomous systems, manipulation, grasping, mobility, sensing, perception and communication. The University is also the lead institution for the new EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Agri-Food Robotics (AgriFoRwArdS), together with partners at the Universities of Cambridge and East Anglia.  

The postholder will benefit from excellent facilities, equipment and readymade links to the university’s extensive network of industry partners across the agri-food chain. The post is based at the University’s 200-hectare Riseholme Campus which is home to a working farm, woodlands, grasslands, and watercourses, agroforestry and a robotic fruit farm including polytunnels and cold storage facilities.

This post offers an opportunity to have positive impacts on wider societal and environmental challenges relating to sustainability. Knowledge and experience of carbon accounting, natural flood management, agroforestry, rewilding, and application of new technology in agriculture would also be advantageous.
