At TU Dresden, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, Institute for Sociology, the Junior Professorship in Micro-Sociology and techno-social Interaction is offering a position as 

Research Associate / PhD Student
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible, until October 31, 2023 (with the option for an extension). The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position entails 50% of fulltime weekly hours and aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e. g. PhD).  

Tasks:

  • academic teaching (according to DAVOHS; teaching in English language is possible) 
  • administrative and organisational tasks 
  • independent doctoral research that is based on qualitative empirical methods and contributes to both micro-sociology and sociology of technology

Requirements:

  • a very good university degree (M.A. or equivalent) in sociology, social sciences or cultural studies 
  • certified, demonstrable expertise in qualitative social-scientific methods and interest in ethnography 
  • strong interest in at least two of the following areas: sociology of technology, theories of practice, valuation studies, feminist studies of technology, science and technology studies, computer-supporter cooperative work, digital sociology or digital ethnography, critical data studies, materiality and embodiment 
  • interest in the organisation of a newly-installed chair, capacity for teamwork 
  • interest in interdisciplinary research 
  • very good knowledge of English, at least basic knowledge of German and the willingness to expand linguistic proficiency.
