At TU Dresden, Faculty of Biology, Institute of Microbiology, the Chair of Microbial Diversity offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student

(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E13 TV-L)

at the earliest possible date. The temporary employment for 36 months entails 65 % of the full-time weekly hours and is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (e.g. PhD).

Tasks: This basic research project funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) aims at elucidating the mechanism of sensing the trace element selenium, of its transport into the cell, and of selenium-dependent signal transduction (leading to differential selenium-dependent gene expression) of strictly anaerobic methanogenic model organisms. To this end, genetic, biochemical, and molecular methods will be employed. The chair is superbly equipped for anaerobic lab work. See for background on the working group and on the topic.

Requirements: university degree (Master or Diploma or comparable degree) in Biology or related disciplines with a clear emphasis of Microbiology and/or Biochemistry/Molecular Biology. We seek a highly motivated scientist proficient in microbiological, biochemical and molecular techniques and above-average commitment. Experience in working with strictly anaerobic microorganisms is highly appreciated.
