Fixed Term
Full Time

At TU Dresden, B CUBE – Center for Molecular Bioengineering, an institute of the Center for Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering (CMCB), in the Chair of Molecular Biophysics (Prof. Dr. Michael Schlierf) a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student / Postdoc
(Subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated
according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

is available starting at the next possible date.

The position is limited for one year with the possibility of an extension of two additional years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG).

Tasks: lntracellular membrane-bound organelles are specialized to perform specific (bio)chemical reactions within the cell. However, organelles also communicate and exchange their content by fusing their membranes in a selective fashion. Such selectivity is due to a set of specific proteins that are devoted to tether organelle membranes and bring them closer for subsequent fusion. One tethering factor is the protein EEA1, which generates an active pulling force by an entropic collapse (Murray, Jahnel et al. Nature 2016). We hypothesize that this collapse is the result of a long-range allosteric communication along the coiled-coil structure of EEA1.
We are looking for a postdoc (biochemist or a biophysicist) to reveal the mechanism of the allosteric coiled-coil collapse using state -of-the-art biochemical and single-molecule techniques, including single-molecule FRET. For questions please contact Marino Zerial (zerial@mpi-cbg.de or Michael Schlierf (michael.schlierf@tu-dresden.de).

Requirements: The position requires a university and – if applicable – PhD degree in biochemistry, biophysics or related fields. The applicant needs to have a profound background in membrane associated proteins and their purification and the use of state-of-the-art biochemical techniques. Experience with single-molecule techniques is welcome.
Excellent communication skills in English are essential as this is the language at the research centres. The B CUBE http://www.tu-dresden.de/bcube and MPI CBG http://www.mpi-cbg.de as weil as their partner institutions, the Biotechnology Centre (BIOTEC) and the Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden (CRTD), are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for Molecular Bioscience research.

Applications from women are particularly welcome. The same applies to people with disabilities.

Complete applications (letter of motivation, CV, list of publications, and certificates of qualifications) should be sent via the SecureMail Portal of the TU Dresden https://securemail.tu-dresden.de in a single PDF-file to antje.walter1@tu-dresden.de
or via mail to TU Dresden, B CUBE, Herrn Prof. Michael Schlierf, Tatzberg 41, 01307 Dresden until 30.10.2019 (stamped arrival date applies). Please submit copies only, as your application will not be returned to you. Expenses incurred in attending interviews cannot be reimbursed.
