Bio/informatician in transposon research

Supported by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, grant nr. 19-11299S.

We are looking for a talented bio/informatician to join our young international research team at CEITEC MU, Brno, CZ (https://www.ceitec.eu).

We're interested in the high-throughput analysis of transposon insertions in various hematological malignancies. Transposons are mobile elements that propagate in the genome via a “copy-paste” mechanism. It leads to a genome functional plasticity but also to pathogenic consequences, such as cancer. In the context of our project we aim to understand how transposons influence pathogenesis and progression of lymphoid leukemias and myelodysplastic syndrome.

The focus of the position will be the development of bioinformatic tools and their application on the sequencing data generated in the project. Skills in scripting languages (R, Python) and good spoken and written English are essential. Candidates of any level of education are encouraged to apply. Experience in high-throughput sequencing data analysis, machine learning and statistics, as well as in biology and medicine, and first-author publications, will be considered a plus.

The position is available now until the end of 2021. The working capacity is preferably full-time, but a half-time contract is negotiable. The salary will be set based on candidate’s experience with a possible increase after the probation period.

Please apply until the 31st of August 2019 to be fully considered. Send us a short CV including contact details of at least one referee to Ilgar Mamedov, PhD at imamedov78@gmail.com and Karla Plevová, PhD at karla.plevova@gmail.com. Questions are welcome. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview (on-site / Skype).
