Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences
Salary: £33,943 rising annually to £37,075

The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences delivers a dynamic combination of research-led teaching and outstanding support, attracting over 5,000 students both locally and internationally. We’re now investing in key areas of research excellence, focusing on English Literature, History and History of Art. This is why we are inviting exceptional candidates to apply for our inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Research Fellowships. This is a fantastic opportunity to take the first steps on an academic career, and to develop high-profile research that offers great potential for publication.

As a Research Fellow, it will be your role to establish and build an independent research programme with an international reputation. You will ensure projects achieve their objectives, and you will form and develop collaborations with existing and external researchers, which will see you generate work for international journals and other high-quality publications.

We’re looking for academics in the following area:

  • History and History of Art
    • Preferably with a research specialism in areas of cultural and social history from 1750, or history of art and visual culture.

This is an exciting opportunity for anyone with a PhD, and a substantial period of post-doctoral (or equivalent) research experience. It’s also a fantastic chance to build and develop your already strong publications track record. You’ll come to us with a history of writing articles in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, and a clear ability to enhance the research culture of both department and faculty. Responsible for developing major research projects, you will also have had experience of mentoring or supervising students.
