The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a global centre for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the 40 best universities in the world – and top 20 public universities. The University opened its Okanagan campus in 2005 as a bold new UBC presence in the interior of British Columbia, designed to deliver on the promise of a research-intensive institution purpose-built for the 21st century.

Over the past eleven years, UBC’s Okanagan campus has developed a distinctive learning community earning national and international recognition for excellence in research and teaching. The campus is home to approximately 8,400 undergraduate and graduate students, 440 faculty members, 500 staff, and 8 world-class Faculties and Schools. With over $14 million in annual research funding, the Okanagan campus is establishing itself as an important and respected centre of learning and research and as a driver of economic and social development in the Interior of BC.

The Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies is a unique academic structure. Its interweaving of creative and critical disciplines continues to develop into a new and distinctive entity. With programs in Art History, Creative Writing, Cultural Studies, Performance, Visual Arts, Media Studies, English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Medieval and Renaissance Studies, the Faculty is a vibrant home to interdisciplinary learning and research. It continues to explore the interplay of the study and analysis of the literary, digital, visual, and performance arts with their formation, presentation, critique and cultural significance.  UBC invites individuals capable of bringing vision, energy, and leadership to the Faculty, who are committed to exploring its full potential.

The ideal candidate will have an exemplary record as an educator and researcher and will be eligible for appointment as a Full Professor at UBC Okanagan within the Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies. With a demonstrated track record of success in leadership roles as a Dean, Associate Dean, or Chair of a department within a well-regarded university, the new Dean will bring outstanding skills in supporting and facilitating research and instruction across a broad range of fields.

This role represents an outstanding opportunity to bring vision and energy to a strategic leadership position at one of the world’s top universities—at a campus that is vibrant, intimate, and actively engaged with its local community and aboriginal partners.
