Job Description

Assistant Professor in Space Science at the Department of Physics, College of Science – UAE University. The Department of Physics, College of Science at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to be part of the Space Science group at the UAEU. The Department’s BSc Space Science and the interdisciplinary MSc Space Science programs cover themes such as Space Missions, Spacecraft Instrument Science, Space Applications, Space Physics, Planetary Science, Space Applications, Spacecraft Systems, Orbital Mechanics and the like. The Department is looking for a candidate who will be able to contribute significantly to fulfill the demanding teaching requirements of the BSc and MSc Space Science Programs. The selected candidate will primarily be required to strengthen these programs by teaching multiple Space Science courses covering the aforementioned themes. The candidate will also be expected to supervise MSc students for their thesis research. In addition, candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research in any of the aforementioned or closely related Space Science discipline.

A successful candidate should:

  • Hold a Ph.D. degree in Space Science, Space Systems, Space Instrumentation or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrate the capabilities to teach undergraduate and graduate space science/technology courses.
  • Be able to supervise graduate students for their thesis research in themes related to Space Science.
  • Have a research background in at least one of the aforementioned or closely related area.
  • Have experience in space data processing, analysis, modelling, interpretation to conduct effective and high-impact research.
  • Show a track record of scientific publications on related topics.
  • Preferably, have three to five years post Ph.D. research experience such as postdoctoral fellowship or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks.
  • Well established skills to work in a team.

The position is located at the UAEU’s main campus in Al Ain, about one and half hour drive from the capital Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The UAEU is the largest and the top ranked public sector University in the United Arab Emirates. The selected candidate will avail the opportunity to work closely with the other members of the Space Science group as well as the experts at UAEU’s National Space Science & Technology Centre (NSSTC). There will be provisions to get associated with the Space Science & Technology projects which are being executed at the UAEU in line with UAE’s National Space Strategy. The application package should include a cover letter, a detailed resume, a brief description of the applicant’s current research activities, future research plan, a teaching statement and a few selected refereed publications relevant to this position. The applicant should also arrange at least 3 reference letters, which should be directly submitted to the search committee (aquib.moin@uaeu.ac.ae). Minimum Qualification

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in the applicable field. The ability to teach undergraduate courses is a must. Industrial and professional experience is a plus.
