  • Salary range: Level B $102,983 - $121,864 or Level C $125,639 - $144,532 p.a. plus 17% superannuation

UWA Law School

Established in 1927, UWA Law School is the fifth oldest Law School in Australia and is Western Australia’s premier Law School.  We have a long and proud history of academic excellence, providing a broad range of education programs and leading research projects with impact. The Law School comprises over fifty scholars engaged in teaching and research in law, socio-legal studies and criminology. Faculty have been drawn from top universities around the world including Australia, North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, and Africa and have broad ranging expertise delivering quality teaching programs.

Scholars within the Law School are engaged in a diverse range of legal and socio-legal research areas covering public, private, international and domestic law, as well as law and society, justice studies and criminology. Our research projects are focused on producing valuable scholarship with real-world impact through a variety of written outputs (books, journal articles, research reports, submissions) as well as through conferences, public lectures, workshops and seminars.

About the opportunity

As a a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in the UWA Law School, you will be responsible for contributing to the School’s teaching programs, research, research supervision and engagement activities and for carrying out the duties of an academic in their field of expertise.  You must be motivated to teach and develop a research profile whilst contributing to the UWA Law School more generally.

You will teach into the School’s Criminology programs including its new Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice, with a particular focus on offending behaviour and effective treatment interventions.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

Level B

  • A PhD, or equivalent, in Criminology or a related field;
  • Experience in teaching Criminology, ideally at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level, with a particular focus on offending behaviour and effective treatment interventions;
  • An emerging research profile in Criminology;
  • Ability and willingness to supervise research students;
  • Ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity;
  • Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional bodies, government departments and other external organisations;
  • Independent initiative and leadership; and
  • Evidence of high level interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication

Level C

  • A PhD, or equivalent, in Criminology or a related field;
  • Significant experience in teaching Criminology, ideally at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level, with a particular focus on offending behaviour and effective treatment interventions;
  • Significant contributions to research in Criminology;
  • Ability and willingness to supervise research students;
  • Ability to relate well to staff and students at all levels and evidence of a commitment to equity and diversity;
  • Ability to liaise and effectively communicate with relevant sections of the community, professional bodies, government departments and other external organisations;
  • Independent initiative and leadership; and
  • Evidence of high level interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication.
