Lecturer (Assistant Professor) or Associate Professor in Aerospace Structures

You will join the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics within the School of Engineering with inter-disciplinary research interests across four departments. We have complementary strengths in aerodynamics and aeroacoustics, battery technologies, autonomous vehicles, computational engineering and design, mechatronics, materials science, and additive manufacturing. We have new laboratories for testing materials and structures (TSRL) across different scales using state-of-the-art imaging techniques (e.g. m-VIS and Photodyn) as well as defining cutting edge industrially relevant approaches.

In addition to being a major user of our experimental facilities, you will have research and teaching interests/experience in Aerospace Structures and will have expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Design, manufacture and testing of mechanical metamaterials, multifunctional, deployable and/or additively manufactured aerospace structures.
  • Stochastic multiscale analysis, data-driven modelling and uncertainty quantification of aerospace structures including service-life conditions.
  • Development and application of state-of-the-art experimental and numerical techniques that enable above-mentioned research areas.

Please include a research statement, a teaching and citizenship statement highlighting areas of interest in education and willingness to contribute to departmental operations and a diversity statement addressing your commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusivity. You can enter these statements in the textboxes provided in the online application form. Alternately, upload documents (no more than 1 page per statement) and provide a summary of these statements in the textboxes. All three statements are required for your application to be considered.

As part of these statements, candidates should evidence:

  • Future research interests/plans (including grant capture)
  • Past research activities demonstrated by journal publications and funding portfolio
  • your ability to develop/deliver modules with innovative teaching and assessment approaches
  • that you are caring and can support students (UG/PG) and colleagues
  • that you can work well in a diverse team and can build an inclusive department
  • that you have potential to lead activities relevant to the department (administration and outreach)
