Associate / Assistant Professor in Humanities and Cultural Studies (tenure track) (PR0467/21-22)

The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing is now inviting applications for an Associate/Assistant professorship in the Humanities Programme.

The appointee is expected to teach a range of introductory and upper level broad-based, and interdisciplinary courses in the Department.

Preferred teaching and research topics include: Health Humanities, Environmental Humanities, Ageing Studies, Critical Theories, Ethnic Studies, Gender Studies, and Media and Cultural Studies. As the Faculty of Arts’ Niche Research Areas focus on “Well-being, Value, and the Public Good” and given our emerging strength in the cultural studies of health, environment, minorities, and gender, priority will be given to research that is impactful and attends to new combinations of approaches informed by arts, humanities, and cultural studies for the benefit of individual well-being and collectively wholesome local and global environments.

Other responsibilities include related research and publication, and supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate theses. Dedication to excellence in teaching as well as research is essential, as is a commitment to working in a bilingual and bicultural setting.

Service to the Programme/Department/Faculty/University is also required.

The Department of Humanities and Creative Writing, the home of (i) Humanities Programme and (ii) Creative and Professional Writing Programme, incorporates a bilingual, interdisciplinary and cross-cultural curriculum that develops and sustains the whole person educational mission of the Hong Kong Baptist University.

The appointee will be expected to teach courses in the humanities fields, and will participate fully in our department while also helping us to build and envision an innovative future for our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Applicants should possess a relevant PhD degree and should have a sound research record of refereed publication, as well as teaching experience at the tertiary level.

The appointment is offered on a tenure track basis. Initial appointment will be offered on a fixed-term contract of up to three years commencing September 2022. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Outstanding candidates at the Associate Professor rank may be considered for tenure at the time of appointment.

Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
