Postdoc position in Bioinformatics and Image Analysis in Cancer Research

Description:
The Department of Pathophysiology is an educational and research workplace of the Medical Faculty at Masaryk University, Brno, The Czech Republic. It provides teaching of students in theoretical and preclinical fields. Research groups are formed within the department, where each group addresses a specific research topic.

A two-year postdoctoral position is available in Michal Masarik research group. We investigate the principles of cancer aggressiveness by means of studying metabolism dysregulation, cancer cell biomechanics, cell death and tumor cell-CAF symbiosis. We are interested in: 1) deep-learning applications in microscopy image analysis, 2) advanced statistics for proteomics/transcriptomics. We use advanced microscopy techniques like AFM, quantitative phase imaging, superresolution microscopy as well as transciptomics and proteomics to describe biologically relevant mechanisms of cancer dissemination. The successful candidate should:

  • be a researcher who has received a PhD or its equivalent within the last 7 years;
  • be a researcher who has worked at least 2 whole years in the last 3 years outside the territory of the Czech Republic in the field of research with a working time of at least 0.5 full-time equivalent, or who has been PhD student (or equivalent) abroad;
  • have a publishing record – in the last 3 years at least 3 publication outputs (“articles”) above the field median (at least 2 of them in Q1) registered in the Thomson Reuters Web of Science.

Specific criteria for this position:

  • have a PhD in bioinformatics, statistics, image processing, computational biology, computer science or a similar field;
  • have experience in at least one programming language: Python / Matlab / R / C#;
  • have experience in the biological image analysis or experience in advanced statistics and
  • statistical analysis of proteomic or transcriptomic data;
  • have experience with research projects (an advantage);
  • have excellent communication skills and teamwork.

The candidate shall submit:

  • a CV including a list of publication activity;
  • a motivation letter, including a short description of research focus and topic which the candidate will work on, justification of the need considering the field;
  • contact information of at least two references (name, position, telephone number);
  • a diploma (recognition for diplomas from foreign institutions);
  • documents proving the candidate has worked at least 2 whole years in the last 3 years outside the Czech Republic and/or PhD diploma from a foreign institution.
