The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.

The School is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile.

As part of a national consortium of Higher Education providers, we have secured the tender to provide a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, and a Degree Holder Entrant Programme, for newly recruited Police Constables in Sussex Police, Hampshire Constabulary and Surrey Police. These innovative courses will be run via e-learning with associated face-to-face masterclasses. This contract success has led to the need for additional academic staff capacity in a range of roles (as above) to deliver these important programmes.

This post will be based at the University of Portsmouth. Travel to off-campus teaching locations will be required in all cases.

This role requires access to police premises and engagement with police officers and staff. As such we will require the successful candidate to undertake the Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) process.

If you wish to discuss this further, in the first instance, please contact Dr Julian Parker-McLeod on julian.parker-mcleod@port.ac.uk or on Tel. 023 9284 3795.

Alternatively contact Claudia Cox on claudia.cox@port.ac.uk or on Tel. 023 9284 3944.

The University of Portsmouth believes this role is eligible for sponsorship with UKVI under the Skilled Worker Route visa, and meets the minimum salary requirements to obtain the minimum points requirement.

We kindly ask that candidates do not send CVs or cover letters as these will not be considered.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons and all appointments will be made on merit. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark, we would particularly welcome applicants from Black, Asian, or from other ethnic groups who are currently under-represented at this level in this area.
