Exciting full PhD scholarship in Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Diversity to be awarded by Southampton Business School

The research domains of entrepreneurship, sustainability and diversity sit within the Department of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (DSIE). Faculty members and doctoral students carry out impactful research into entrepreneurship, its diverse contexts, and the intersection of sustainability, diversity and entrepreneurship. DSIE members are globally renowned academics in their fields, whose research and academic work are endorsed through interdisciplinary depth, funded and multi-partner research programmes, engagement with national and international research communities informing policy and practice and published research in leading entrepreneurship and innovation journals. Please visit our website (https://www.southampton.ac.uk/business-school/about/departments/index.page) to explore our research interests, expertise and our engagement with our research communities.

DSIE invites applications from prospective PhD students with diverse academic backgrounds, who strive for excellence, aspire to influence policy and practice, pursue relevant and responsible research in the domains of entrepreneurship, sustainability and diversity to impact change. The prospective candidates are expected to achieve this by working at the interface of pertinent disciplines such as business management, sociology, economics, philosophy and geography, and engaging with members of chosen entrepreneurial ecosystems and research communities as key stakeholders in order to generate evidence-based scholarship addressing socio-economic challenges.

DSIE houses the research centre, Centre for Inclusive and Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CISEI). Our activities are organized around research labs on “Entrepreneurial ecosystems”, “Philosophy and Entrepreneurship”, “Non-opportunity”, “Knowledge exchange”, “Digital business”, “Family business”, “Extra-ordinary innovation”, "Inequality and social inclusion”, and “Non-cooperative spaces”. Through these labs, we engage with entrepreneurs, business leaders, policy makers and academics in these domains in such inclusive fashion that allows all parties to co-create knowledge, value and transform their individual and organisational experiences.

DSIE is homed within the Southampton Business School, which has an ambitious quality driven strategy of growth, which will see us strengthen our position as a world-class business school in research, education and enterprise. As part of a world-renowned Top 100 QS ranked Russell Group University with a global reputation for academic excellence, our interdisciplinary research coalesces around multiple research centres which enables us to develop exciting, innovative and rewarding projects that address global challenges and change the world for the better. As a member of the Faculty Graduate School, the Southampton Business School’s postgraduate research students are a highly valued part of our community, and are integral to the continued success of the Business School and of the University as a whole. Our PhD programme has been awarded +3 recognition for full-time students by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and has also received research studentships from ESRC and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) for its doctoral programme. We offer a stimulating, challenging and dynamic research environment for our PhD students.
