The Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) in the UK: Advancing online survey methodology

The Department of Social Statistics and Demography at the University of Southampton is looking to recruit a researcher with expertise in survey methodology. The project will conduct and analyse survey experiments and explore ways to improve online data collection in social surveys. 

Working under the direction of Dr Maslovskaya, who has been awarded an ESRC grant together with colleagues Prof Perelli-Harris and Prof Berrington, you will be part of a team setting up the first wave of Gender and Generation Survey (GGS) in the UK. You will analyse methodological experiments within the GGS and undertake research on advancing online data collection in social surveys.

You will have a PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in a quantitative social science and expertise and excellent knowledge and understanding of survey methodology. You will have practical experience in designing, running and/or analysing methodological survey experiments. You will also have excellent knowledge of advanced statistical methods and experience in analysing large-scale datasets, as well as solid practical experience in the use of STATA, R or a similar software package, and good written and oral communication skills.

Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.  The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
