Job Details

King’s College London is a multi-disciplinary, research-led university with over 33,000 students from 150 countries. Our five campuses in the heart of London span boroughs that offer some of the greatest opportunities and connections across legal, cultural, business, policy and medical London – as well as some of the greatest socio-economic challenges and levels of health inequality. Our partnerships reach across the globe and 40% of our staff come from overseas. We excel in disciplines that span justice, health, geopolitics, climate, business, social change and economics and are able to combine our knowledge and scholarship to make a genuine impact locally and globally.

King’s is now seeking to appoint an exceptional leader to the role of Director of King’s Foundations, our leading centre for EAP and pathway education. Reporting to the Executive Director of King’s newly formed School of Professional & Continuing Education (PACE) and working closely with university leaders, the Director will be responsible for building upon an aspiring and commercially viable vision for King’s Foundations, in line with King’s over-arching strategic and financial plans. The role-holder will therefore bring commercial awareness, sound financial knowledge, and the ability to fully contribute to the senior management team of this newly formed, cross-university function.

We welcome over 2,500 students each year across our King’s International Foundation Programmes and our range of Pre-sessional Programmes, and the department is home to c.80 permanent staff growing to c.150 over the summer. A substantial track record in teaching and professional achievement within the EAP and pathway fields, as well as capabilities in leading and inspiring large cohorts of staff and students, are essential requirements. Notable leadership and organisational skills are a prerequisite, with a clear commitment to excellence in education. The role-holder will be innovative and forward-thinking around how education is evolving and have a clear understanding of the university pathway sector, including its challenges and opportunities.

King's has an outstanding reputation for world-class teaching and cutting-edge research. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) King’s was ranked 6th nationally in the ‘power’ ranking, which takes into account both the quality and quantity of research activity, and 7th for quality according to Times Higher Education rankings. Eighty-four per cent of research at King’s was deemed ‘world-leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’ (3* and 4*). The university is in the top seven UK universities for research earnings and has an overall annual income of more than £684 million.

King's has a particularly distinguished reputation in the humanities, law, the sciences (including a wide range of health areas such as psychiatry, medicine, nursing and dentistry) and social sciences including international affairs. It has played a major role in many of the advances that have shaped modern life, such as the discovery of the structure of DNA and research that led to the development of radio, television, mobile phones and radar.
