The Department of English (http://www.LN.edu.hk/eng/) of Lingnan University now invites applications for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor specializing in either Literature or Language & Linguistics.

General Requirements

Successful candidates should have a relevant PhD and are required to provide evidence of teaching and research excellence in their areas of specialization. For those specializing in Literature, expertise in Anglophone world literature will be especially welcome. In Language & Linguistics, candidates who can complement the department’s existing research strengths in discourse studies, sociolinguistics and world Englishes are encouraged to apply.

An appointee at the level of Associate Professor is required to possess an excellent track record of scholarly publications and external grant projects, in addition to rich experience of teaching and course development. At the Professor level, an appointee should be established as an internationally prominent scholar in his/her field of specialization. Appointees at either level should also show evidence of administrative experience and leadership potential, and should be capable of taking on roles such as Head of Department and/or Programme Director of a planned new MA programme.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be highly competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may normally lead to longer-term appointment with the possibility of consideration for substantiation. For appointment at the rank of Professor, appointment with substantiation may be considered.
