Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Applied Geophysics in the Department for Earth Sciences (Ref.: 508869), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

The Faculty of Science provides a supportive and friendly environment and has embarked on a programme of recruitment to invest in areas of acknowledged strength and internationally competitive activity. Information about the Faculty can be obtained at https://www.scifac.hku.hk/.  The Department of Earth Sciences has research strengths in Earth history and global change, solid Earth and planetary sciences and applied/urban geosciences, and houses major research facilities. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences or a related discipline, with a strong commitment to research and teaching. They should be able to demonstrate excellence in research in applied/urban geology, with a focus in applied geophysics. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the development and application of innovative geophysical techniques for addressing environmental, engineering, hydrogeological and marine geology problems. Experience in knowledge exchange activities and impact case study (https://www.ke.hku.hk/) would be beneficial.  Teaching duties will be assigned by the Head of Department with a reduced teaching load in the first two years of appointment. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable. A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the appointee will be provided.
