Job Details

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Biomolecular and Biomedical Science. Chronic infections are associated with poor quality of life and mortality for people with respiratory conditions such as cystic fibrosis (CF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The process of chronic colonisation allows pathogens to adapt over time in response to selection pressures. We have previously demonstrated that sequential isolates from people with CF show improved ability to attach to human cells and many of the alterations in protein profiles were common across the individual series of isolate, indicating a common process of adaptation. This project will examine how hypoxia drives adaptation of respiratory pathogens and will investigate the mechanism(s) by which this response is mediated. This research aims to establish the mechanistic commonalities of adaptation across pathogens in chronic infection and the potential to target the adaptation process as a route to treat multiple chronic antimicrobial resistant respiratory infections. This is an exciting research focused role funded by the Science Foundation Ireland Frontiers for the Future programme. The successful candidate will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator. You will further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching. PD1 Salary range: €39,131 - €42,700 per annum PD2 Salary range: €39,131 - €42,700 per annum Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience. Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on the 6th of December 2021. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications. UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV's submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.
