Applications are invited for a Lecturer/Assistant Professor (above the bar) post in the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science, within the Section of Food Science & Nutrition, in the area of Food Safety with expertise in microbiology .

This is a full-time, 5-year academic post and the appointee will join a team of 19 full-time academics within the Section who offer a portfolio of programmes including BSc Food Science, BSc Human Nutrition, MSc Food Nutrition & Health (online) programmes and a BSc Food Quality & Safety at Guangzhou Dublin International College of Life Science and Technology (GDIC).

The appointee will spend one trimester (up to 16 weeks) per academic year teaching, delivering modules, assessing students and engaging with local staff at South China Agricultural University (SCAU) in Guangzhou, China, as members of a team delivering several degree programmes at GDIC. The appointee may also teach at UCD's Belfield campus. Undergraduate teaching will primarily be in Food Processing, its environmental impact. In addition, the candidate will deliver a module in local food production and small medium enterprise processing of food .

The appointee will develop their own research programmes that will be largely based in Ireland but may include activities overseas (including China). We are looking for highly motivated candidates who have demonstrated aptitude, commitment and passion for teaching and research in their areas of expertise.

Candidates must have a PhD in an appropriate discipline, a vision and capacity to carry out independent research, excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, and teaching experience. The candidate should complement and engage actively with current academic staff in the Section, School and wider UCD community, and make a significant contribution to teaching, research and university life.

Lecturer/Asst Professor Above the Bar Salary Scale: €55,397 - € 87,724 per annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines.
