About the Faculty of Arts - School of Social and Political Sciences
Located in the Faculty of Arts, the School of Social and Political Sciences hosts a dedicated team of academic and professional staff in the disciplines of Anthropology and Development Studies, Criminology, Political Science, and Sociology. About the Role
This position is offered as a ‘Melbourne Early Career Academic Fellowship’ (MECAF) and in this position, staff will be expected to engage in a self-directed development programme which will be developed with the support of the staff’s supervisor and a specific senior staff member working in their field of expertise.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- prepare and deliver lectures, tutorials, and seminars
- initiate, develop, and review subject material
- develop curriculum, consult with students, and mark and assess
- apply for external competitive research funding
- Participate in the research activities of the discipline
- Engage with external stakeholders to build networks, partnerships, and consultancies
- Undertake administrative activities commensurate for a Level B academic.
About You
The Lecturer in Criminology will be a committed, engaging teacher and researcher with enthusiasm for teaching, both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Ideally, you will further have:
- a completed PhD in Criminology or closely allied discipline
- demonstrated specialisation in one or more of the following: queer criminology, cultural criminology, sensory criminology, spatial criminology, Indigenous criminology, youth justice, trauma-related victimology, post-conflict justice, crip criminology, state violence, pharmacoanalysis, drug studies
- a strong and developing publication profile in high profile criminology journals
- capacity to attract research grants and consultancies
- demonstrated ability for excellence in teaching across a broad range of Criminology subjects
- ability to supervise honours and postgraduate coursework degree theses
