The Australian National University (ANU) College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) is a vibrant and diverse community of more than three thousand students, staff, and visitors. Our College is comprised of three schools: the School of Computing, School of Cybernetics, and School of Engineering, supported by the Professional Services Group. We aim to bring together expertise in social, technical, ecological and scientific systems to build a new approach. In the College, we draw on our disciplinary foundations to find and solve problems of global importance. Our people build on our traditional world-class expertise and take it in creative, unconventional directions. Through the Reimagine investment, we have the privilege and the responsibility to build a new legacy for the University, the country, and even the world. We will deliver on our mission by building a strong community, providing transformative educational experiences, conducting high-impact research, seeking meaningful engagement, and becoming a resilient organisation post COVID-19. Join us in shaping a new intellectual agenda to reimagine engineering, computing, and the use of technology in the world.
The School of Cybernetics is the first new school established at the ANU in the 21st Century. The School will build on the foundational work of the Autonomy, Agency and Assurance Innovation Institute (3Ai), and also develop capacity in systems and design. Cybernetics is at the heart of the work of the school as a tool that sparks new ways of thinking and possibilities for the future. We focus on systems as a unit of analysis and driver of action for industries working with complexity and we are generating new approaches to shape the future through and with technology. The school creates programs that blend education, research and engagement, giving staff the opportunity to create new ways of working, to imagine something different, built on a diverse, inclusive culture.
This position is a full time fixed term two year appointment in the 3A team within the School of Cybernetics. We welcome and develop diversity of backgrounds, experiences and ideas and encourage applications from individuals who may have had non-traditional career paths, who may have taken a career break or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia.
Longer term and/or ongoing appointment may be offered in exceptional cases subject to performance and budget availability as well the candidate’s demonstrated capability and desire to complement the School of Cybernetics' strategic agendas in teaching, research and broader engagement within the University and community.
The start date for this position is no later than January 19, 2022. The position is based on the ANU campus in Canberra.
