About the position

The School of Allied Health, Human Services and Sport comprises 3 departments that house 11 disciplines. This position will sit within the Discipline of Speech Pathology in a Department with Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Audiology, and Orthoptics.

The position will contribute to the delivery of the Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Speech Pathology, Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Hons) and Master of Speech Pathology, particularly in Paediatric Language.

A Level B teaching and research appointment is expected to develop curriculum, teach and support students in their learning and conduct research to advance the field of speech pathology. A typical workload for a teaching and research academic is approximately 60% teaching, 20% administration/service to the Discipline/University, and 20% scholarly research work.

A Level C teaching and research academic is expected to develop curriculum, teach and/or undertake research and/or other scholarly work relevant to the development of their discipline or professional field. An academic at this level will make a significant contribution to the discipline at the national level. They will normally play a major role or provide a significant degree of leadership in scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • PhD or evidence of enrolment in a PhD or equivalent. 
  • Demonstrated competence in teaching and curriculum development, with evidence such as student feedback.
  • Clinical and/or research experience in Child and/or Adolescent Language and Literacy.
  • Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
  • High level organisational skills with the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, initiate and follow-up actions, all with minimal or no supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively with people from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Evidence of the ability to work as a member of a team in a co-operative and collegial manner.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
