The School of Architecture and Built Environment (SABE) aligns its teaching and research under the broad theme of Planning, Designing and Constructing Resilient Communities; where resilience is defined as the ability to recover from setbacks, adapt well to change and sustain vibrancy in the face of adversity.

Through the research it undertakes and the programs it offers, SABE advances knowledge in its fields of expertise, and it develops of professionals who serve their communities in ways that show respect for Country, the sustainability of our environment and the principles of social justice, equity and diversity. This role is one of five new Indigenous positions in SABE whereby the School of Architecture and Built Environment is set to lead Australia by being the preferred employer and partner university for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.

We are looking for people to join our university – to bring their cultural knowledge and understanding to our community. Your role will involve transforming our course framework and research direction relating to design on/in/with Country.

In your role, you will be an integral link to teaching Pre and Post Disaster Reconstruction and Re-building within broader Indigenous communities, Improving Indigenous Employment Outcomes and Cultural Competencies in Construction Industries; and Co-building and Co-constructing with First Nations peoples on Country. You will pride yourself on culture, building student knowledge and creating our first indigenous course content. How will you become part of our community?

You will be an innovator and inspiring educator who embraces 21st century modes of learning to create opportunities for the Indigenous community. In this role you will be able to make a difference, providing valuable input into the approaches to teaching delivery.

Your contributions will be impactful, meaningful and you will be able to embrace communities and regions outside of an academic context. Your research will be pivotal to positive change across our division to create an enhanced student experience. Your experience along with your knowledge of Country will make you successful in this position.
