About the opportunity

An exciting post-doctoral position is available in the A/Prof Lenka Munoz' laboratory to study the mechanism of cancer dormancy and drug tolerance in glioblastoma. Our laboratory has developed and is now translating a new class of cancer drugs into glioblastoma clinical trials. The successful applicant will work on a NHMRC-funded project focused on the delineation of dormancy mechanism and pharmacological exploitation of new targets in drug-tolerant persister cells.

Our laboratory is located in the multi-disciplinary Charles Perkins Centre (CPC) at the main campus of the University of Sydney. CPC provides an outstanding intellectual environment and access to a wide range of cutting-edge technologies in cell imaging, cytometry, genomics and proteomics.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • communicate with key internal and external stakeholders and engage with collaborators at the University of Sydney and nationally
  • undertake research using glioblastoma stem cells, molecular biology techniques (incl. CRISPR), live-cell imaging and microscopy, and a variety of pharmacological/phenotypic assays
  • demonstrate excellence in data analysis, interpretation of results and directing future experiments
  • assist with preparation of manuscripts and competitive research grants
  • support the supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • interpret and present data to collaborators, develop profile through presentations at conferences and seminars.

About you

  • a PhD in cell/molecular biology or pharmacology or a related discipline (awarded or near completion)
  • background in cancer cell biology and hands-on experience conducting cell-based research, preferably with cancer stem cells
  • experience in cell/molecular biology techniques such as CRISPR, RNA interference, PCR, Western blotting and immunofluorescence
  • experience with platforms such as Incucyte, Opera Phoenix, flow cytometry to perform phenotypic assays (e.g.; viability, apoptosis, cell cycle, 3D spheroid growth)
  • familiarity with sequencing technologies and ability to analyse sequencing and -omics datasets (desirable, but not required)
  • recognised contributions to the preparation and analysis of research data, drafting reports and manuscripts
  • ability to work effectively within a team and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
