Job Summary:

Work for a prestigious leading university, ranking top 200 in the world and broaden your expertise

Be part of positive change in our communities

Our vision to become a world-leading university for our regions will take passion and perseverance. We can’t do it without you.

We are looking for people to join our university – to bring their exceptional teaching to our region, and to take their research impact to the world with us.

As one of the top 200 universities in the world and number one university in the world for partnering for a sustainable future, we are proud educators grounded by the needs of our community. We are driven by our inclusive focus and are proud of our five-star rating for social equity.

Be part of something bigger

The College of Engineering, Science, and Environment is a world-class centre for scientific and technology research and innovation. The School of Environmental and Life Sciences is the College’s largest School, offering a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The School undertakes internationally excellent research with substantial numbers of research higher degree students, and has excellent research facilities. Particularly relevant to this role are our nine individual north-facing temperature-controlled glasshouse environments, of which six are compliant to a Physical Containment Level 2 certification, and one to Biosecurity Containment Level 2.

Be part of our new research group focused on plant and animal molecular biology and agri-biotechnology. This group will work on a wide variety of topical issues including plant resilience and adaptation, animal-based agribusiness, sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and food security. You will work to build links across the University with researchers in climate change, conservation science, food science and human nutrition, soils and nutrient enhancement, and bioinformatics.

Your role will be within the discipline of biology in the School of Environmental & Life Sciences. You will contribute to undergraduate teaching in areas such as agricultural and environmental biotechnology, as well as first year courses supporting students to understand and appreciate general biology.

You will have a demonstrated research track record commensurate with experience, and a clear vision for evolving a successful future research and innovation portfolio.

Commitment to gender equity

As part of the University’s commitment to providing a more diverse and inclusive higher education environment and increasing the number of women in underrepresented areas including the field of Biology, this role is open to female candidates only. The University currently holds an exemption under Section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW) in relation to its targeted recruiting programs.

The University is committed to supporting and promoting women and their research in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Successful female applicants will be supported by a range of initiatives under the University’s Athena SWAN Award accreditation, designed to remove or reduce structural, systemic and/or cultural barriers to attraction, retention and progression within the profession of Biology, and more broadly, shaping the future for the University as a leader in gender equity. There is a large cohort of women in leadership roles at the University who are dedicated to shaping the future for Women in STEM, which includes helping female academics to advance their careers through additional mentoring, fellowships and programs that address inequity. This position represents an opportunity to join with the University in promoting Women in STEM and changing the lived experience of staff and students in Biology.

This full-time ongoing position will be located at the Callaghan Campus. The University supports flexible work arrangements which may negotiated to meet a candidate’s personal circumstances.

How will you become part of our community?

You will have a passion for collaborative science and for applying your skills in molecular plant biology to a wide range of problems. You will have the ability to teach into undergraduate courses across the discipline and to motivate and excite first year students. You will be committed to using modern teaching pedagogies to enhance the student experience and to develop life ready graduates. And you will be focused on excellence in all parts of your role – research, teaching, and engagement.

How will we support you?

The remuneration is $103,221 - $122,576, plus 17% superannuation.

The University is committed to being a leader in family-friendly working environments.
