Full time – 35 Hours
Fixed term 4.5 months 

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant with relevant laboratory / industry experience to work on two Sustainable Aquaculture  Innovation Centre funded projects in the University of the West of Scotland using medical clinical chemistry techniques to evaluate the health of fish in aquaculture. 

The successful candidate will be preferably educated to BSc/MSc level in a subject relevant to clinical biochemistry, biomedical research, clinical pathology health diagnostics and/or have practical laboratory / health & safety experience. The position will involve undertaking laboratory analysis to assist original research on the expression of clinical chemistry and immunology biomarkers in fish serum and potentially preparation of samples for histological analysis and PCR analysis. This work shall aid in the development and commercialisation of a holistic diagnostic approach to fish health in aquaculture. 

The lab work will be carried out within the WellFish Diagnostics laboratory in UWS in collaboration with industry participants. The post holder will be joining a team of academic staff and experts from industry working in this area and will be based in the Paisley Campus. Although advertised for 4.5 months, it is intended that this position will transfer into a WellFish Diagnostics upon project completion.
