The Faculty of Engineering and Science offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that are widely recognised for their academic quality, innovation and close ties to the industries in which our graduates work. We aim to ensure that we equip our graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace upon graduation and throughout their professional careers. The School of Engineering is currently undergoing a period of unprecedented growth in our undergraduate and post graduate numbers, we are seeking staff to support the growth of our numbers but also to help drive our research and enterprise activates within the region and the broader community.

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering with a strong background in mechanical engineering teaching and research. The successful candidate will take an important role in the development and delivery of teaching and research.  The principal teaching areas will be thermo-fluids at all levels within the School. But applicants must have the potential or proven ability to develop an internationally recognised research program, excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Principle teaching interests should be:

  • Specialist in Fluid mechanics at an advanced level.
  • A strong background in thermodynamics.
  • Good CFD experience, including coding and use of industry standard CFD software.
  • Significant teaching experience, including development and delivery of fluid mechanics and thermodynamic modules.
  • Experience in the application of thermo-fluid concepts to renewable energy systems would be desirable.

This is a new post within the School of Engineering to support and enhance research and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, preference will be given to candidates who possess a PhD along with excellence in teaching with demonstrated capacity to conduct novel, interdisciplinary engineering research that will expand and complement the School of Engineering’s research strengths. Ideally, we are looking for candidates who have research experience in thermo-fluids, however, other specialisms will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
