English Language Centre, Junior English Language Instructor

Employer
BNU-HKBU UNITED INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE
Location
Zhuhai, China
Closing date
14 Dec 2021

Due to the current visa policy, we are currently only able to interview candidates who are located in mainland China or who hold a valid Chinese working visa. This policy will be updated in line with any changes to travel restrictions in the coming months.

The English Language Centre (ELC) of the BNU-HKBU United International College (UIC) is a large and well-established department offering a range of courses and support services to students throughout their undergraduate studies. Students enrolled in UIC degree programmes are taught in English, so the ELC is responsible for ensuring that they are prepared for both the language and academic requirements of courses that use English as a medium of instruction. Now the ELC invites applications for appointment as junior English language instructors as soon as possible.

Job Description

Junior language instructors play a key role in increasing UIC students’ exposure to English and international perspectives outside of the classroom. Working under the guidance and instruction of the independent learning coordinator, junior language instructors will have opportunities to deliver one-to-one and small group English language tutorials, run intercultural clubs and societies for students, observe and assist with the teaching of curriculum courses, and assist with administrative work. Junior language instructors will also have opportunities to take free Chinese language classes and participate in campus life as full-time members of staff.

These roles are aimed at graduates who are interested in exploring a career in English language teaching in China by undertaking a one-year structured introduction to language teaching, with opportunities to continue to develop their teaching career in the ELC in subsequent years.

Job Requirement

Candidates should hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0/upper-second class (preferably in English, education, or a closely related field), with either a 120-hour TEFL certificate or two years full-time teaching experience. Candidates should also have a high standard of both spoken and written English, as well as strong communication skills and an interest in learning about other cultures.
Candidate for this role must either hold a passport from an English-speaking country or have the right to work in China without a working visa (e.g. Chinese national, green card holder).

Benefits and Appointment Terms

A competitive salary will be offered together with social insurance and housing allowance. Appointments are made for one year, with the possibility of progression dependent on successful performance review.
