The role

The Research Fellow in Aquaculture Nutrition will be responsible to undertake research with a key focus on nutritional and feeding challenges related to the contemporary aquaculture sector.

The Research Fellow should have a sound knowledge of current aquaculture and fisheries practices and trends, coupled with a deep understanding of fish, animal and human nutrition and the ability to apply analytical tools and protocols used in aquaculture nutrition research. In addition, the Research Fellow will contribute to developing innovative progressing methodologies, including extrusion technologies, for the manufacturing of technologically and nutritionally improved aquafeeds.

This is a great opportunity to gain excellent research training through working collaboratively and closely with academic collaborators and industry related R&D activities.

To be successful, you will have:

  • PhD or equivalent in aquaculture nutrition or relevant field.
  • Excellent scientific writing skills, and an excellent track record of peer reviewed publications in international journals in the scientific areas of aquaculture, nutrition, nutrition, biochemistry
  • Proven ability to plan, initiate and conduct high quality research, which has resulted in publications, conference papers, reports, or professional or technical contributions
  • Demonstrated skills in data acquisition, data management and analysis, and experience in quantitative data analysis including competence in computer programming
  • Demonstrated skills in nutritional chemistry and biomolecular analyses, including chromatographical and/or PCR approaches
  • Ability to maintain a high standard of data and code documentation and a demonstrated ability to meet competing deadlines
  • Experience in working directly in, or liaising with, commercial aquafeed or related realities
  • Experience in aquafeed formulation, raw material selection and extrusion technologies
  • Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact well with research and technical staff and students

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Research, design and undertake quantitative analysis and modelling, documenting the methods and summarising the results including the production of appropriate graphs, maps, and tables
  • Undertake, coordinate and collaborate in a variety of nutritional chemistry related analytical protocols and procedures.
  • Contribute to successful development of research programs or partnerships
  • Write papers for publication in scientific journals and compile and deliver presentations
  • Undertake literature reviews and maintaining literature databases in Endnote
  • Make a contribution to the supervision, management and timely completion of HDR students.
