Curtin University has established itself among the top one per cent of universities in the world (ARWU 2021), and is industry-facing, highly engaged with relevant partners, and a major global player, with well-integrated campuses in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Mauritius.

Curtin Medical School was approved by the Federal Government in 2015, and in 2017 welcomed its first cohort of 60 students into the five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree. Curtin Medical School’s mission is to create highly competent doctors of the future who integrate into an inter-professional environment and put patient safety and quality care first, with a strong focus on primary care.

In January 2021, Curtin Medical School, merged with the School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Science and welcomed the discipline of Medical Radiation Science. As a result the Curtin Medical School, which is part of the Faculty of Health Sciences, now brings together multidisciplinary teaching, research and development expertise. It offers the only undergraduate medical degree in Western Australia, in addition to well-established programs in Pharmacy, Medical Radiation Science, Laboratory Medicine and Biomedical Science. The Medical School, which comprises a dedicated and diverse team of professional and clinical staff, is located in Bentley, a bustling suburb 10 minutes from the Perth CBD, approximately 4.5 km from the Perth CBD.

Curtin University has opened its new Midland Campus, which will act as a base for Curtin medical students in their fourth and fifth year of study as well as other health sciences students. The state-of-the-art building incorporates high-tech simulation suites and rich collaborative learning spaces.

Your new role

Curtin is seeking to recruit an internationally recognised and inspiring academic leader, with a deep understanding of inter-professional learning, to lead Curtin Medical School’s teaching and research into the next stage of its development and contribute to the future of health care in Western Australia.

The holder of this prestigious position will have a distinguished and sustained record of clinical practice, teaching, research and scholarship and will bring strong strategic and academic leadership capacity in a complex stakeholder environment. They will possess a strong international knowledge of medical education, together with a willingness to work with relevant professional bodies and the passion to inspire colleagues to deliver successful outcomes and enhance the global reputation of the School and the University.

The Dean could be drawn from any of the disciplines represented in the school. However, if not medically qualified the candidate would need to demonstrate credibility and competence in leading a medical education and research programme.
