Job description

We are seeking to recruit a social science scholar with interests in the global dimensions of education to contribute to teaching and programme administration on our BA Social Sciences and MA Education suite of programmes. The successful candidate will have expertise in, or that can be applied to, international and comparative education, education in a global context, and education and international development, with a strong grounding in a foundation discipline. They will also have strong communication, organisational and teamworking skills, a commitment to inclusive and democratic ways of working, proven teaching ability and an interest in, and aptitude for, communication across disciplines. They will be a member of the friendly and vibrant Centre for Public Policy Research within the School of Education, Communication and Society, which is a School in the Faculty of Social Science and Public Policy.

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract for 12 months

This is a full-time  post - 100% full time equivalent

 

Key responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to contribute to the academic life and culture of the Centre for Public Policy Research (CPPR) and the wider School by:

  • Contributing to teaching, module coordination, and programme administration on our BA Social Sciences and MA Education suite of programmes.  This is likely to include coordinating and/or contributing to the following modules:  ‘Education for the 21st Century: a global perspective’, ‘International and Comparative Education’ and ‘Education and International Development’.
  • Contributing to other modules and programmes in the School as required. 
  • Acting as Personal Tutor to students and supervising student dissertations. 
  • Conducting research relating to one or more of CPPR’s four programmes of research. 

The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post.

Skills, knowledge and experience

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in relevant area
  2. Strong communication skills, with excellent written and spoken English
  3. Strong organisational and teamworking skills and a commitment to inclusive and democratic ways of working 
  4. Expertise in, or that can be applied to, international and comparative education, education in a global context, and education and international development, with a strong grounding in a foundation discipline
  5. Ability and willingness to make a broad contribution to teaching and supervision beyond the candidate’s immediate specialism
  6. Proven teaching ability and a student-centred approach
  7. An interest in and aptitude for communication across disciplines

Desirable criteria

  1. Expertise in online or blended learning
  2. A track record of producing high quality research publications
