Post-doctoral Research Fellow/Research Associate in Aquatic Greenhouse Gas Emissions- Carbon Cycling and Methane

  • Full-time, fixed-term opportunity (3 years)
  • Remuneration package up to $118,806 per annum
  • Located in Lismore, NSW – an exceptional regional location offering the best of an Australian lifestyle.

About the role

The Faculty of Science and Engineering delivers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the areas of Engineering, Science, Environmental and Earth Systems, Marine Systems, Forest Systems, Regenerative Agriculture, Mathematics and Information Technology. The Faculty is committed to the delivery of high-quality

Courses that combine academic rigor with relevance to employment opportunities for graduates.

The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will contribute to several Australian Research Council (ARC) funded aquatic greenhouse gas projects. We are working on carbon and nitrogen cycling, including surface-groundwater interactions, in tidal wetlands, estuaries and inland waters. The projects will use a combination of continuous in situ Picarro and Los Gatos concentration and stable isotope measurements, floating chamber flux measurements, benthic process measurements, groundwater measurements and advanced numerical modelling across a range of tidal wetland habitats and inland waters.

The Post-doctoral Research Fellow will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including groundwater hydrologists, biogeochemical modellers and coastal managers. The broad objective of our work is to make estimates of, and better understand the factors controlling, GHG emissions from aquatic systems under global change. We are also interested in how to better management these systems to enhance their carbon (e.g. burial) and nitrogen (e.g. denitrification vs anammox) removal capacity (Nature Based Solutions) while reducing associated GHG emissions. The appointee will also lead, and contribute to, publications and other project milestones and outputs.

For a Research Fellow (Academic Level B1) appointment, the remuneration package is up to $118,806 per annum (inclusive of base salary $101,544 per annum and 17% employer's contribution to superannuation

For a Research Fellow (Academic Level A) appointment, the remuneration package is up to $112,992 per annum (inclusive of base salary $90,112-$96,574 per annum and 17% employer's contribution to superannuation – salary range minimum based on appointment of candidate with a PhD of Level A, year 6).

A further term may be offered after the three year contract subject to funding and the ongoing requirements of the University.

This role is based in Lismore, in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. Our region offers the best of an Australian lifestyle with spectacular beaches, World Heritage rainforests and a vibrant regional hub.
