Job Description

SERIS is a research institute at the National University of Singapore (NUS). SERIS is supported by NUS, the National Research Foundation Singapore 
(NRF), the Energy Market Authority of Singapore (EMA) and the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB). 

The Solar Energy Systems (SES) cluster has strong expertise in the area of solar resource assessment, real-time monitoring, numerical weather prediction and solar forecasting. The team is currently executing a large project on advancing solar forecasting and implementing it into a fully automated operational system. For this project, we are looking for an experienced solar forecaster with programming experience who has practical and theoretical knowledge of the solar energy resource assessment and forecasting research field.

The candidate should be able to demonstrate all the relevant requirements listed below and is expected to be responsible for the following job aspects. 

  • Manage the solar forecasting team 
  • Deliver and guide the development of solar forecasting techniques in SERIS 
  • Explore future avenues for solar forecasting using spatio-temporal time series data 
  • Work with IT specialists to maintain and deliver operational solar forecasting 
  • Respond to client concerns and liaise with IT technicians to resolve issues. 
  • Contribute to the future of the Digitisation of Energy’s strategic goals for solar forecasting in the region using multi-band satellite imagery. 

Requirements

The successful candidate should be able to meet the following requirements: 

  • PhD in solar forecasting 
  • Experienced in developing new solar forecasting tools 
  • Publication track record proving excellence in field of solar forecasting 
  • Firm understanding and practical experience with: 
    • predictive modelling 
    • data analysis 
    • statistics and time series analysis 
    • machine learning techniques 
  • Experience with ensemble forecasting, including knowledge how to implement and interpret them 
  • Work in python (or have skills in similar scripting language with willingness to learn python) 
  • Work in a fast-paced team environment with engineers, consultants, regulators and clients
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of initiative 
  • Highly motivated and well organized
