About the Role
You will add technical expertise and deliver the design, process optimisation, and techno-economic assessment of carbon capture for the industrial sector and low carbon energy. You will have a specific set of responsibilities within the research projects. There may be a combination of research and teaching, with appropriate organising and managing in support of these activities.
You will work primarily on the “Deep Decarbonisation of Sugar Refinery” project in collaboration with industrial partners, Tate & Lyle Sugars (TLS) and Origen Power. The project aims to assess the feasibility of novel calcium looping concepts to capture carbon dioxide from the flue gases of TLS refinery plant.
With the support project team, you will be expected to develop the process models and conduct the feasibility assessments of carbon capture and low-carbon energy systems. You will also be expected to actively contribute to high-quality dissemination of the research outputs via drafting manuscripts to high-impact-factor journals and presenting at relevant conferences.
You will have a PhD (or near completion; or MSc/MRes with additional working experience) in carbon capture, power engineering, energy, or related discipline. You must have extensive experience in process design and conducting techno-economic feasibility assessment of carbon capture and low-carbon energy systems, be fluent in process modelling using commercial software (eg. such as Aspen Plus, Ebsilon Pro, and Engineering Equation Solver) or in-house process modelling software, and be able to develop new ones. You must have also demonstrated a strong track record via publications in high-quality journals.
