Research Associate / PhD Student

At TU Dresden, International Institute Zittau (IHI), a Central Academic Unit, the Chair of Ecosystem Services offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting January 1, 2022.

The position is initially limited for 3 years with 50% of the fulltime weekly hours. The period of employment is governed the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (e.g. PhD). Subject to the availability of resources in the BMBF-project TeichLausitz, the weekly hours can be increased by further 15% for the project duration.

Tasks: independent research on governance options and policies for biodiversity conservation, especially payments for ecosystem services in sustainably managed pond landscapes; participation in conducting research projects; teaching in MSc classes and participation in the coordination of the English-speaking Master Program Ecosystem Services at IHI Zittau; participation in academic services and administration.

Requirements: very good or good university degree (Master or equivalent) in economics, agricultural or environmental social sciences, preferably with a focus in ecological economics or environmental economics; solid knowledge of the ecosystem services concept; very good German and English language and communication skills and proven interest to work in interdisciplinary teams. Experience in the interactions with stakeholders, as well as a background in qualitative and/or quantitative empirical methods in economics / social sciences are of advantage.
