About the opportunity

The School of Electrical and Information Engineering at the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the School of Electrical and Information Engineering. This role will work closely with our industry partners lead by CurbCycle and IQ Renew to research, design and assess computer vision and automation solutions for innovative recycling sorting applications including the Curby Program.

About you

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who has:

  • demonstrated excellent record in Artificial Intelligence and deep learning. Experience in computer vision is preferred
  • demonstrated strong hands-on coding skills in C++, Python, and other scripting languages to quickly prototype Deep/Machine Learning models on platforms such as TensorFlow/Keras/Pytorch
  • strong research experience with data analysis, especially image analysis, is preferred
  • the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • demonstrated experience in planning, analysis, and communication skills together with the ability to work according to strict deadlines and manage various demands
  • excellent administrative skills, coupled with a general understanding of the project life cycle, project documentation, project standards and methodologies
  • the ability to work in highly collaborative team environment
  • the ability to work with industry
  • experience in conveyor belt-based automation systems is a plus.

The successful applicants will also have a PhD or be close to his/her PhD completion in a relevant area, a strong research track record and experience in automation/robotics programming and software tools.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, work effectively in a team, manage resources, and prioritise tasks to achieve project outcomes will be essential.
