$88, 384 – $97, 837 pa

Reporting to:

Associate Director, Customer and Site Services

Under broad direction, the Manager, Retail and Placemaking is responsible for managing campus experience through the strategic development of University spaces, and the campus retail and food and beverage environment.

The incumbent will focus on stakeholder management and work with a whole of University collaborative approach to achieve an outstanding campus experience and work towards establishing a healthy and sustainable retail campus environment.

The Manager, Retail and Placemaking will play a key role in the development of government, industry and community organisation partnerships to establish, maintain and extend relationships to support the ongoing development of campus retail, placemaking and a high quality campus experience. The development of University places and campus experience will be undertaken in the context of the University ethos, academic integrity, social responsibility and brand.

Key Position Responsibilities

The Manager, Retail and Placemaking is accountable for:

  • Developing, managing and implementing a University retail and campus experience strategy.
  • Providing high level, strategic advice and analysis on all matters relating to retail strategy and campus experience, placemaking and place development.
  • Build and maintain a healthy, collaborative relationship with retail tenants and service providers, balancing completing needs where required.
  • Liaise with University Staff, students and external stakeholders as appropriate, on the strategic development of campus retail, along with associated placemaking and place development.
  • Assess University campus food environments against best practice standards to generate interest and commitment to change, and inform the development of mechanisms to facilitate action in creating a healthy and sustainable campus.
  • Work with University and local government stakeholders to implement policies and strategies to improve the healthiness and sustainability of the campus food environment.
  • Working effectively across the division to develop, implement and continually improve procedures and guidelines that comply with University policy, in the context of the University ethos, academic integrity, social responsibility and brand.
  • Any other responsibilities in line with the level of the role as assigned by the Supervisor and/or the University.

Key Position Capabilities

  • Completion of a degree with significant relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and/or training.
  • Proven demonstrated experience working in the University retail environment, including experience in relation to the operation, management and development of University retail strategy and associated campus experience and placemaking.
  • High level of liaison and negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders and the ability to work cooperatively and equitably with a diverse range of people.
  • Significant ability to problem solve, be flexible, exercise judgment and initiative with high level attention to detail.
  • High level organisational skills including demonstrated ability to operate within a flexible work environment, prioritise concurrent tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Well developed oral communication skills and demonstrated experience in managing a diverse and complex range of stakeholder relationships.
  • Well developed interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills including the ability to write reports, submissions and proposals for a range of audiences.
  • Proven demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively within broad guidelines, establish priorities and meet deadlines and exercise judgement and initiative in devising and implementing practical and economical solutions to complex problems.
  • Familiarity with University or other higher educational environments, administrative and decision-making structures.
